My name is Janne. I was born in 1991 and I’ve been a gamer since I was less than 7 years old. I’ve also been a hobby programmer from around 2005, and a professional one since 2013.

The first online multiplayer game I played was probably RuneScape Classic (2001) – the one that makes Old School RuneScape look like the new RuneScape. Soon after, I was introduced to Counter-Strike 1.5 (2002) and World of Warcraft (2004), which is how I got into programming: I discovered I could make changes to WoW by writing “addons” in a programming language called Lua.

So that’s how I got started, and I never stopped.

Nowadays, I do everything from low level device firmware to distributed backend systems and responsive multi-platform user interfaces (not necessarily using web technologies).

I used to watch quite a lot, not so much anymore (after 2014 or so). I even learned Japanese so I could watch without subtitles. Haven’t maintained the skill. I can still mostly understand speech but reading is difficult.
